Qualifications

• Must possess minimum high school education or its equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Follow facility policies and procedures governing the administering of medications to residents.
• Note and report errors in the administration of medications
• Assist in developing and implementing procedures or programs to determine what medication errors occur and how to prevent them.
• Perform administrative requirements such as forms, charts, and reports as required.
• Maintain professional relationships with nursing staff, physicians, the Medical Director, and pharmacists.
• Report complaints or grievances to the Director of Nursing Services.
• Participate in surveys and QA programs related to medication administration.
• Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document medications as ordered.
• Verify medications brought by new residents are examined and identified by attending physician or facility pharmacist.
• Follow policies regarding destruction of medications and proper documentation.
• Ensure all medications are properly labeled and charted.
• Assist in documenting discontinued medications.
• Follow procedures for drug receipt errors and report them.
• Observe and verify medication ingestion or application and document refusals when applicable.
• Notify supervisors of medication errors or reactions.
• Verify resident identity before administering medications.
• Record vital signs and maintain documentation.
• Follow procedures allowing residents to self-administer medications.
