Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a pharmacy technician to support providers by coordinating medication authorizations, onboarding patients, and maintaining accurate medication histories. You will work with insurance processes to secure authorizations and input home medications into the EHR.

The role requires 2 years of related experience, High School diploma, and PTCB certification within 6 months of hire. Hybrid schedule: onsite 2 days weekly, with equal opportunity employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician, medical intake, or healthcare employee working with medications.
• Preferred – experience with insurance to process medication authorizations, outpatient clinics, or medication history reviews.
• PTCB certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Preferred – active national Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB).

Responsibilities

• Processes patient onboarding.
• Coordinates with providers and patients to assess eligibility for financial support.
• Navigates the medication authorization process.
• Obtains and clarifies patients’ home/chronic medication.
• Uses the EHR to input patients’ home/chronic medication lists.
• Communicates discrepancies identified via the medication history process with the pharmacist and makes clarifications with the patient and prescribers as needed.
• Collects patients’ prescription benefit information.
• Provide high quality customer service to patients, family members, and care team members.
• Documents all findings into the EHR for collaboration amongst providers and staff.
• Adapts behavior to the patient population and privacy requirements.
• Performs other related duties as required.
