Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing seeks Part-time Patient Care Technicians for the Medicine Specialty Unit (6RC) in Iowa City. Under RN supervision, you will assist in patient care, coordinate tests, and manage unit communications in a fast-paced environment focused on holistic patient-centered care.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma and some clerical/healthcare experience, with strong communication skills and ability to multitask in a dynamic team setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus 1–2 years of clerical/health care-related experience.
• Desirable: 6 months clerical experience; public/customer service experience; knowledge of medical terminology; MS Word and MS Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with patients, visitors and health care staff in an effective, cooperative manner.
• Maintain electronic communication systems and update unit boards daily.
• Assist in scheduling patient tests and appointments; relay information timely.
• Maintain census data and enter ADT into IDX; process patient charges as needed.
• Support nursing staff and other providers under RN supervision.
