Job summary

City of Hope is seeking a Medical Technologist to work Full-time Weekends—Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 6:00a–6:30p. Under the supervision of the Laboratory Director, you will perform routine and complex laboratory tests to aid accurate diagnoses and patient treatment.

You will operate automated instruments, monitor quality controls, and communicate critical results to caregivers. The role demands accuracy, speed, and teamwork within City of Hope’s integrated cancer and diabetes care network.

Qualifications

• Must have associate degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Technology with a MLT or MT certification.
• Prefer a minimum of 2 years hospital or clinic experience.
• Certification required (ASCP, AMT or AAB) or eligible to take exam.
• Performs routine and complex medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses.
• Maintains automated and computerized instruments including recognition of instrument malfunction and resolution with appropriate corrective actions.
• Evaluates results of Quality Control procedures and implements corrective action when indicated.
• Evaluates the validity of test results; notifies primary caregiver of critical test results.
• Documents and maintains records required by hospital and accrediting agencies.
• Develops and maintains current procedure and policy manuals per accrediting standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure tests are performed in accordance with established standards.
• Maintains and operates automated instruments; resolves instrument malfunctions.
• Evaluates quality control results and takes corrective actions when indicated.
• Notifies primary caregiver of critical test results and documents findings.
• Maintains records required by accrediting agencies and updates procedures.

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Medical Technologist conducts a range of routine and complex laboratory tests on body fluids and substances. This role requires independent judgment, speed, and accuracy. The efforts of individuals in this position, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, provide data for accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment of diseases, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
