Job description

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Independently performs laboratory procedures for which the technologist has been trained and demonstrated competency. Executes, interprets, and analyzes laboratory testing on patients of all ages using professional knowledge of laboratory procedures in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications:

• MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent, plus sufficient college and/or technical courses and clinical training to meet testing and certification requirements as a medical technologist by an approved certifying agency.
• MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None beyond education/training requirements.
• MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW: Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by ASCP, AMT, or AAB, according to Georgia Department of Community Health regulations. Recent graduates or those new to Georgia may have a temporary classification for up to 18 months to complete required examinations. AAB provisional certification is not accepted.
• ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology, or related biological sciences preferred. One year of supervised clinical experience as a medical technologist is preferred. Competency in laboratory areas such as chemistry, hematology, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology is desirable.
