Job description

Nemours is seeking a Casual/PRN, Medical Technologist, to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE.

Schedule: Casual/PRN night shift with every other weekend requirement.

Responsibilities include:
  • Performing analytical procedures using manual and automated methods across various clinical laboratory methodologies (e.g., manual/visual plate-reading, microscopy, analyzers, rapid tests).
  • Ensuring proper specimen processing, test performance, and reporting results with documented training, without supervision.
  • Executing calibration, quality control, and statistical calculations, understanding concepts like linearity, standard deviation, and control charts.
  • Performing procedures specific to assigned areas, such as microbiology or chemistry analyses.
Essential Functions:
  • Deliver educational presentations as assigned.
  • Participate in inspection teams, such as those for the College of American Pathologists.
  • Order, access, and report test results, monitoring critical clinical issues and verifying information accuracy.
  • Use, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory equipment following established procedures.
  • Collect specimens from patients, including blood draws and special collections, following proper procedures and infection control protocols.
  • Transport specimens appropriately.
  • Review and stay informed about technical and administrative procedures, updating documentation as required.
  • Manage supplies and inventory, ensuring proper handling and storage.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and vendors, demonstrating good customer service.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, using PPE and handling hazardous materials responsibly.
  • Train others, such as students, residents, or new employees.
Job Requirements:
  • B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent, with qualifications meeting CLIA standards for moderate complexity testing.
  • Technical skills including pipetting, aliquoting, microscopy, etc.
