Job summary

St. Davids Medical Center, part of St. David’s HealthCare, seeks a Medical Technologist PRN to join our Austin laboratory team. You will perform moderate and high complexity testing, review results, and ensure specimen integrity while adhering to procedures.

Hours are ideally one night shift per week (10pm–6:30am); swing shifts on Saturdays may be considered. The role requires MT registration or eligibility and a relevant degree, with comprehensive benefits and professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of generalist and blood bank experience in acute care setting – preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field.
  • Graduation from a clinical rotation or internship from an accredited medical technology program OR, 50-week military training course or acceptable equivalent which results in eligibility to take registry exam in medical technology (Clinical Laboratory Science).
  • Registration as a Medical Technologist (MT) by ASCP, NCA, or AMT OR, evidence of a passing registry exam score within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform moderate and high complexity testing and report results.
  • Receive specimens, print labels, and enter and verify patient data without errors.
  • Operate and troubleshoot test systems.
  • Identify problems affecting test performance or reporting.
  • Ensure age-appropriate test selection and reference ranges.
  • Ensure timely availability of laboratory results.
  • Perform quality control activities and respond to outlier results.
  • Participate in proficiency testing in applicable technical areas.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Hours are Ideally, one night shift per week 10pm-6:30am. Will also consider swing shift on Saturday (roughly 10am-6:30pm).

As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing moderate and high complexity testing. You will analyze, review, and report test results and quality control results, and ensure specimen integrity by adhering to laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.

  • You will complete moderate and high complexity testing and follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient result records
  • You will correctly receive specimens, print labels, and enter and verify patient data without errors
  • You will operate and troubleshoot test systems
  • You will identify problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results
  • You will ensure that test selection and reference ranges are age-appropriate
  • You will ensure timely availability of laboratory results
  • You will perform quality control activities appropriate to each assay performed and respond appropriately to outlier results
  • You will participate in proficiency testing activities in each applicable technical area
What qualifications you will need:

Experience

  • 2 years of generalist and blood bank experience in acute care setting – preferred

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field
  • Graduation from a clinical rotation or internship from an accredited medical technology program OR, 50-week military training course or acceptable equivalent which results in eligibility to take registry exam in medical technology (Clinical Laboratory Science).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registration as a Medical Technologist (MT) by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) OR, evidence of a passing registry exam score within 1 year of hire
