Note: This position is contingent upon contract award and will be located onsite in the southeast, southwest, or central United States. Travel may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests.
- Examine and analyze body fluids and cells; match blood for transfusions.
- Maintain blood products according to American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) requirements.
- Analyze chemical content of fluids and test for drug levels in the blood.
- Prepare specimens, count cells, and identify abnormal cells in blood and body fluids.
- Analyze test results and communicate findings to physicians.
- Culture body fluids and tissue samples to detect microorganisms.
- Determine concentrations of compounds such as glucose and cholesterol.
- Ensure test accuracy by evaluating results, developing procedures, and monitoring programs.
- Follow universal safety precautions to handle biohazardous materials.
- Order supplies, maintain a safe environment, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Maintain patient records, operate and maintain equipment, and assist in department management as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a formal Medical Technology training program leading to a Bachelor's Degree.
- Certification by AMT, ASCP, or NCA.
- Current BLS certification.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Medical Technologist.
- Recent clinical experience in direct patient care, with at least 6 months in the last year.
- Ability to multi-task, be detail-oriented, organized, and possess excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers and MS Office.
- Flexibility to adapt to shift changes and operational needs.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident residing in the U.S. for at least 3 of the past 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Department of Homeland Security clearance.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
- Work typically performed in an office environment.
- Sitting and standing for extended periods.
