Job summary

Florida Medical Center is seeking a Generalist Medical Laboratory Technician/MLS to rotate through blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology and urinalysis, performing manual and automated tests and preparing specimens for microscope examination.

Requires graduation from an accredited MLT/MLS program, passing the national board exam, and a Florida license; good verbal and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency; 0–4 years of related experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited MLT/MLS program and pass national exam.
• 0-1 year experience acceptable; 2-4 preferred.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through departments: blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis.
• Perform manual and automated routine blood tests and prepare specimens.
• Operate laboratory equipment and document findings.
• Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks.

Job description

Generalist position rotating through all departments: blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, basic microbiology and urinalysis. Performs manual and automated routine blood tests. Prepares specimens for microscope examination. Operates laboratory equipment and performs a variety of tasks. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. Requires graduation from an accredited MLT/MLS program and passing a national exam given by the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within medical laboratory field. 3 months experience preferred.

• Preferred: 2-4

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• Current/Active Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (TN)
• Education: Technical School/4 Years College/Bachelor's Degree
• Good verbal and written communication skills required.
• Basic computer skills required.
