A Brief Overview

Performs various clinical laboratory tests and procedures to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases, following established standards, practices, and procedures, exercising independent judgment. Interprets and reports test results accurately and timely. Assists in supervising Medical Lab Technicians. Performs duties on an as-needed basis per PRN guidelines.

What You Will Do

1. Perform clinical lab tests and procedures in specimen procurement, examination, and analysis, following standards and safety practices. Tests include hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood gases, and cardiac testing, among others. Conduct microbiology procedures involving cultures and interpretations. Perform waived testing per CLIA standards.
2. Prepare blood samples for diagnostic testing, ensuring proper preservatives and anti-coagulants. Assess specimen acceptability, document unacceptable samples, and process patient specimens.
3. Analyze and report lab test results promptly, perform quality control, and document results with patient history and diagnosis. Enter and retrieve data using patient computer systems and lab information systems.
4. Collaborate courteously with patients and staff, maintaining communication regarding test statuses and issues. Maintain records for compliance and administrative purposes.
5. Ensure a safe, clean laboratory environment, maintain equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and assist in evaluating new techniques. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies including HIPAA and safety standards.
6. Supervise and instruct support personnel and students, participate in continuous training, and contribute to performance improvement activities. Provide coverage for absences, including night, weekend, and holiday shifts, and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Medical Technology program.
• Qualified by education, training, or experience to work with diverse patient populations.
• State of TN Medical Technologist licensure within 120 days.
• Experience in patient care through an approved Medical Technology program.
