This
full-time Microbiology opportunity is available on the
first shift in the
Microbiology Department of Clinical Pathology Laboratories (CPL) in Austin, Texas.
In This Role, You Will
- Perform high-complexity microbiological testing on clinical specimens such as urine, blood, sputum, wounds, and body fluids.
- Read and interpret culture media, distinguishing clinically significant pathogens from normal flora.
- Identify microorganisms using manual and automated biochemical methodologies.
- Perform antibiotic susceptibility testing to determine appropriate treatment options.
- Analyze, review, and report microbiology test results, ensuring timely communication of critical findings.
- Recognize and troubleshoot issues or unexpected results, implementing corrective actions effectively.
- Comply with laboratory safety protocols, quality control standards, and regulatory guidelines.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor degree or higher in a chemical, biological, or medical science.
- 1+ years of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory, or certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) in Microbiology or Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent).
- A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies, with enthusiasm for continuous professional development.
- Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in operating general laboratory equipment, including telephones, computers, automated analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, manual and automated pipettes, and audible alarms.
Bonus Points If You Have
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) in Microbiology or Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience in microbiology.
- Laboratory training or experience in high-complexity testing.
