This job involves receiving and preparing specimens according to standard protocols, performing laboratory tests and calculations for diagnosis and treatment, conducting quality control procedures, maintaining equipment, performing phlebotomy as needed, and maintaining patient confidentiality.

Education

Required: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or related sciences. A copy of transcripts is required.

Work Experience

None required.

Certifications

Required: Current license in the state of practice (if applicable). Certification by ASCP, AMT, or AAB as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technologist. Incumbents certified after January 1, 2004, must complete the ASCP Certification Maintenance Program.

Job Duties
  • Perform and interpret routine and specialized laboratory tests accurately and independently.
  • Manage quality control, instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, safety, and proficiency testing adherence.
  • Participate in performance improvement and inventory management.
  • Adapt communication and behavior to suit patient populations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
