OneBlood in Orlando is seeking a qualified Technologist with leadership experience to oversee workflow, schedule staff, and ensure accurate testing per regulatory guidelines. The role emphasizes training, QC/QA, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet deadlines.

The position is full-time, 2nd shift (2:00 pm – 10:30 pm) with weekend/holiday rotation and possible differential. Florida CLT license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three or more years in a clinical laboratory, preferably blood banking, or equivalent.
  • Florida CLT license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking preferred; CRA/CLIA readiness may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Leads workflow, coordinates staff scheduling and training, and ensures timely, accurate testing.
  • Monitors QC/QA activities and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs essential bench work and participates in on-call rotations as needed.
  • Provides leadership to resolve protocol and equipment issues and supports performance metrics.

Overview

Under the direction of the Manager or designee, provides leadership and technical expertise, coordinates workflow, manages staff scheduling and performs training and quality activities. Ensures that testing is completed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies and procedures. Perform the essential functions of the Technologist

Schedule: This full-time position will work on 2nd shift, 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm, 5 days a week to include rotating weekends and holidays as required. Based upon when hours are worked, position may include a 2nd shift and weekend differential of $3.50 - $8.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures efficiency and productivity by monitoring the production status and directing the workflow and people resources to meet deadlines and standards
  • Participates in validation, projects and monitoring key performance indicators
  • Provides leadership and technical expertise for the department helping to resolve issues associated with protocol, equipment, interpretation of test results and system interfaces
  • Completes employee departmental orientation, competency testing, compliance training and other mandatory instruction
  • Ensures that all QC/QA procedures, maintenance schedules, instrument calibration and function checks and other regulatory inspection agency requirements are followed
  • Performs Medical Technologist bench work as needed
  • Participates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors and takes effective and preventive corrective actions when indicated
  • Participates in an on-call rotation
  • May take over some functions in the absence of the department manager or supervisor.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related field from an accredited college or university. Three (3) or more years in a clinical laboratory, preferably blood banking, environment or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Two (2) years' experience in a OneBlood laboratory

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:

In Florida, a valid and current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking; supervisor license preferred. In certain specialty laboratories other Florida licenses may be required. If working in a state without laboratory personnel licensure requirements, must meet current CLIA requirements for high complexity testing

  • Knowledge of and ability to read technical procedures and governmental regulations
  • Ability to organize work for timely completion
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to read, write and speak English effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Skill in operating office equipment
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to periodically perform moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling or prolonged sitting or standing.
