University Hospitals in Parma, OH is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist Blood Bank Lead to oversee the Blood Bank bench. The role requires leading testing, maintaining quality control, training staff, and ensuring regulatory compliance across accrediting bodies.

You will collaborate with the supervisor, perform pre-analytical/analytical/post-analytical steps, troubleshoot equipment, and support patient safety while upholding PHI and departmental policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology (Required)
• Bachelor's Degree in other field (Required) and Associate's Degree in clinical laboratory science with ASCP or equivalent (Required)
• 3+ years in a highly complex lab setting in defined clinical disciplines (Required)
• MLS/MLT/MT ASCP or equivalent certification upon hire (Required)

Responsibilities

A Brief Overview

Position is a Lead Position for the Blood Bank bench

Follows laboratory policies and procedures to perform high and moderate complexity testing. Performs pre-analytical and post-analytical laboratory support functions. Demonstrates clear communication with team members to optimize laboratory operations

What You Will Do

• Accurately and efficiently performs pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes for laboratory testing
• Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
• Performs and evaluates all required quality control assessments as described in departmental policies and procedures prior to reporting patient results.
• Maintains and demonstrates competency assessment in assigned area
• Completes all assigned mandatory assignments within allowed timelines.
• Collaborates with the laboratory supervisor to ensure laboratory compliance with all regulatory agencies by established standards
• Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members.
• Assesses competency of team members as assigned.
• Monitors compliance to accreditation and regulatory checklist items.
• Serves as an escalation for issues that arise with team members, and internal and external clients
• Ensures quality control and quality assurance program appropriate for the testing performed and that parameters for acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained throughout the entire testing process through pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases (TSR does not)

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution. (Required) or
• Bachelor's Degree in other field (Required) and
• Associate's Degree in clinical laboratory science and certification by ASCP or equivalent are also acceptable. (Required)

Work Experience

• 3+ years experience in a highly complex laboratory setting within defined clinical disciplines i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular, Microbiology, Histology, Cytology, etc. (Required)

Licenses and Certifications

• Medical Lab Technician (MLT-ASCP) or equivalent (Required Upon Hire) or
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS-ASCP) or equivalent (Required Upon Hire) or
• Medical Technologist (MT-ASCP) or equivalent (Required Upon Hire)
