Job summary

UAB Medical West Hospital is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform complex laboratory tests on patient samples, analyze results, and maintain equipment. The role supports accurate diagnoses and high-quality patient care in a clinical laboratory setting.

The candidate will work 9:30pm–8:00am on a 7-on/7-off schedule, with a $10,000 sign-on bonus and tuition reimbursement. Requires MLS/MT certification and relevant laboratory experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
• 1 year of experience as a Registered Medical Technologist.
• Registered as a Medical Technologist or MLS by the ASCP or equivalent.
• Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of laboratory tests on patient samples (blood, urine, other fluids).
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
• Analyze test results and interpret data to inform patient care.
• Ensure quality and accuracy of results by following QC procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field.
• 1 year of experience as a Registered Medical Technologist.
• Registered as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent
• Experience working in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Registered as a Medical Technologist by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent
• Specialization in a specific area of laboratory testing, such as microbiology or hematology.
• Experience with laboratory information systems and electronic medical records.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
