Job summary

WakeMed is seeking a qualified medical laboratory professional to perform routine and specialized tests, evaluate results, and ensure quality control within the laboratory. The role supports development of new procedures and may lead training for new staff, contributing to patient care and accuracy of reports.

The position requires an Associate degree in Medical Technology or related field, with a preference for Bachelor's in Clinical Laboratory Science and at least two years of clinical lab

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technology required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science preferred.
  • 2+ years in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests with accuracy.
  • Evaluate and report patient results using established testing methods.
  • Maintain quality control procedures and support equipment/supplies management.
  • Assist in developing and implementing new procedures and instrumentation.
  • Train new employees and students and serve as a resource for staff.

Job description

Overview

Performs routine and specialized laboratory tests and other procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems. Evaluates and reports patient results using considerable independent judgment within the scope of established testing methods. Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies. Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures and instrumentation. May assume responsibility for one or more laboratory projects or functions such as performance improvement, safety, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, and computer systems. Trains new employees and/or students in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures and serves as a resource for less experienced staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
