Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Massachusetts is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform and interpret a broad range of tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment. This role supports patient care through accurate results and adherence to quality standards.

Requirements include an MLT or Bachelor’s in science, CLIA high-complexity qualification, and ASCP certification preferred. Evening shift, 32 hours per week, with holiday rotations and potential signing bonus.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from a clinical lab science program (MLT) required or Bachelor’s degree in sciences.
• Degree and coursework must meet high complexity testing requirements (CLIA).
• ASCP certification as MLT/MT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs and interprets a wide range of tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
• Refers to supervisors for interpretation of complex results.
• Ensures test results meet quality control requirements.
• Interprets test results with patient history to explain normal/abnormal results.
• Maintains preventative maintenance for equipment in the area.
• Troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies complex equipment and instrumentation.
• Keeps accurate records of tests performed using computerized systems.

Performs and interprets various chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Major Responsibilities:

• Follows established protocols to perform a wide range of test in an assigned area.
• Refers to Medical Technologist II’s or supervisory or lead staff members for assistance in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.
• Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
• Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
• Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area.
• Performs routine troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
• Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.

Position Qualifications:

• License/Certification/Education: Required: Associates degree from a clinical lab science program (MLT).
• -OR- Bachelor’s Degree in sciences.
• Degree and course work in the sciences must meet the requirements for high complexity testing as defined CLIA Sec. 493.1487 to qualify for hiring.
• Preferred: ASCP certification as an MLT /MT Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
