Description

Overview

DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system serving the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. Established in 1993, it includes Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, rapid response hospital labs, Centralized Stat Lab, Blood Bank Lab, and a comprehensive outreach infrastructure such as patient service centers, ambulatory labs, marketing, courier, and billing services. Our service area covers Southeast Michigan with a test menu exceeding 1,000 tests, including high-end specialty tests, with less than 1% outsourced to reference labs. We also provide reference services to other healthcare systems in Southeastern Michigan and beyond.

Summary

Under general supervision, performs quantitative and qualitative tests on patient specimens according to standard procedures. Analyzes results, prepares samples, calculates findings, and maintains records. Prepares solutions, reagents, and media, and ensures quality in testing materials.

Processes and tests various laboratory specimens, reviews and reports results, performs operational duties, maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab equipment. Acts as a resource for other laboratory staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved medical technology program, or equivalent military training as per 42 CFR 493.1489, or qualified at the Medical Technologist level via HHS exam before 2/28/92 per 42 CFR 493.1491. Meets CLIA criteria for High Complexity testing.
  • Prefer 6 months to 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in an acute care setting.
  • Registered or registry-eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS); if non-US trained, complete equivalency evaluation within 30 days of hire. State licensure as required.

  4. Close visual examination of specimens.
