We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Technologist I to join our Special Chemistry Team in Indianapolis, IN!

Scheduled Shift: Monday-Friday 1st Shift

Pay Range: All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Essential Functions

  1. Perform assigned clinical laboratory testing accurately and in a timely manner.
  2. Resolve pendings, retrieve and check specimens against pending list, document discrepancies, and notify management if unresolved.
  3. Prepare workstation and instrumentation for testing.
  4. Properly handle specimens and resolve technical issues, contacting internal customers for clarification as needed.
  5. Operate instruments per established procedures and perform routine testing and calculations.
  6. Resolve assay problems and ensure test result validity through quality assurance and control procedures.
  7. Perform experiments for evaluation of new calibrators and QC lots, and document results.
  8. Document quality control results, interpret according to Westgard rules, and record biases or violations.
  9. Document corrective actions for unusual occurrences.
  10. Analyze proficiency testing samples as patient specimens.
  11. Manage reagents/materials/supplies, including receiving, labeling, and documenting new reagents and performing quality checks.
  12. Enter results manually or auto-verify, ensuring peer review and proper documentation.
  13. Maintain instruments and equipment, calibrate and troubleshoot as needed, and notify management of issues.
  14. Comply with regulatory guidelines and SOPs at all times.
  15. Maintain up-to-date training records, complete competency assessments, and assist in training new employees.
  16. Coordinate with internal and external customers, respond to inquiries, and understand department metrics and goals.
  17. Demonstrate proficiency in computer systems and software.
  18. Adhere to safety policies, maintain a clean work environment, and minimize biohazard waste.
  19. Perform additional responsibilities when presented, report activities to management, and perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Qualifications/Certifications and Licenses

U.S. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science or related life science with at least 12 months of training in Medical Technology.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science with one year of training/experience in the testing specialty.
  • OR 90 semester hours including biology, chemistry, and math from an accredited institution, with completed clinical training or equivalent experience.
  • OR an Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology.
