Opportunity: Medical Technologist I

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Scheduled Shift: First Shift

Pay Range: Compensation will be based on skills, experience, certifications, and market data.

Essential Functions
  1. Perform clinical laboratory testing accurately and timely.
  2. Resolve pending specimens, check against lists, document discrepancies, and notify management of unresolved issues.
  3. Prepare workstations and instruments for testing.
  4. Handle specimens properly, resolve technical issues, and contact internal customers for clarification.
  5. Operate instruments following established procedures.
  6. Perform routine testing, calculations, and resolve assay problems.
  7. Ensure test validity through quality assurance and control procedures.
  8. Document QC results, interpret according to Westgard rules, and record biases or violations.
  9. Document corrective actions for unusual occurrences.
  10. Analyze proficiency testing samples as patient specimens.
  11. Manage reagents/materials: receive, label, document, and perform quality checks.
  12. Enter results manually or automatically, ensuring peer review and proper documentation.
  13. Maintain instruments, calibrate, troubleshoot, and notify management of issues.
  14. Comply with regulatory guidelines and SOPs.
  15. Maintain up-to-date training and participate in competency assessments.
  16. Assist in training new employees and attend scheduled meetings and training.
  17. Coordinate with internal and external clients, respond to inquiries, and support quality and safety standards.
  18. Demonstrate proficiency in computer systems and software.
  19. Adhere to safety policies, maintain a clean work environment, and minimize biohazard waste.
  20. Take on additional responsibilities as needed and report activities to management.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must qualify as testing personnel under CLIA 1988 and NY State requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science with relevant training, or
  • Bachelor’s in a life science with one year of relevant training/experience, or
  • 90 semester hours including biology, chemistry, and math, with clinical training or experience, or
  • Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology.
