Under the direction of the Smilow Lab Coordinators and Lab Manager, the Medical Technologist demonstrates the ability to perform a wide variety of routine, moderate, and high complexity procedures in the Smilow offsite laboratory. Responsibilities include interpreting data, troubleshooting, participating in quality control and assurance initiatives, and maintaining equipment. Good time management and organizational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

1. Technical Competency: Perform a variety of techniques and procedures, including moderate and high complexity tests. Ensure sample acceptability, accurate data entry, and proficiency in aliquoting, specimen processing, and storage.
2. Instrument Skills: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation independently. Perform scheduled maintenance and document it appropriately.
3. General Skills and Knowledge: Support overall laboratory operations, ensure availability of supplies, and adhere to policies and regulations.
4. Professional Skills: Engage in ongoing professional development, participate in training and orientation for new staff, and communicate effectively with team members and clinical staff.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent; MT (ASCP) certification or eligibility.
• Experience: 1-2 years in an accredited clinical laboratory.
• Licensure: ASCP certification highly preferred.
