Job Summary

The Medical Technologist Lead at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for assisting the supervisor with scheduling, quality control, maintenance programs, and workflow organization. This role also includes ensuring the accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens while adhering to all relevant laws and regulations.

Job Functions

  • Coordinates workflow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area.
  • Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in absence of supervisor or Lead MT. Ensures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment, and specimens.
  • Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens, including proper labeling and patient identification.

Communication

  • Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, family members, and customers.

Customer Service

  • Uses AIDET as applicable.
  • Attends CARES training.
  • Ensures proper service recovery for patients and caregivers when necessary.
  • Answers telephone politely and efficiently.

Employee Relations

  • Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.

Reporting/Recordkeeping

  • Ensures department testing is reported accurately and timely.
  • Assists in meeting department Performance Improvement goals.
  • Maintains documentation of instrument maintenance and quality control.

Education

  • Assists with training students and new employees.
  • Participates in continuing education to maintain and expand skills.
  • Stays updated on regulatory changes.

Regulation

  • Adheres to NMHS/NMMC policies, local/state/federal regulations, and standards such as CAP and CLSI.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or related field (Required)
  • Licenses and Certifications: ASCP certification required within 12 months of graduation; Valid Driver’s License preferred.
  • Work Experience: Not specified; preferred experience in laboratory settings.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency with LIS, good organizational and communication skills, knowledge of biohazardous specimen handling, ability to evaluate processes, and excellent customer service skills.
