Job summary

OptumCare in the United States seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) to perform all phases of laboratory testing from pre-analytic to post-analytic, supporting diagnosis and patient care. The role requires solid technical proficiency and attention to detail to maintain high standards of lab practice.

Schedule is variable, with availability between 6:30 am and 9:30 pm, including rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by a nationally recognized agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT, AAB)

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests and procedures in a timely and accurate manner
• Evaluate laboratory results meticulously, addressing discrepancies
• Maintain laboratory equipment, calibrations, and regular maintenance
• Demonstrate knowledge of testing techniques and medical terminology for effective communication
• Monitor supplies and report low inventory levels
• Participate in quality assurance/control activities including proficiency testing
• Provide training to new staff or students on laboratory techniques and equipment
• Maintain accurate records of procedures and results with meticulous documentation
• Uphold specimen integrity and proper tracking of reagents
• Facilitate shift handoffs and communicate significant information to staff
• Promote organized, safe work environment and Lean-based improvements
• Utilize Laboratory Information System for workflow optimization
• Assist leadership in developing and evaluating new techniques or procedures
• Establish productive relationships with patients and medical staff
• Work independently with clear communication
• Adhere to policies and complete required compliance training

Education
