Job Description - Medical Technologist - Core Lab (250710)

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Medical Technologist to join our Core Lab team. This full-time position involves evening shifts during the week and includes every other weekend on night shifts.

Purpose of this position: Under general supervision, performs clinical laboratory testing of moderate to highly complex tests. Uses automated equipment and specialized processes for testing, accurately interprets results, and can identify abnormal specimens.

A hiring incentive of $3,500 is available for eligible external candidates (current employees, contract/temporary workers, and former employees returning within one year are ineligible).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Follow all laboratory procedures, including patient identification, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, documentation, and data entry into laboratory systems.
  2. Recognize, document, and communicate unusual or critical results based on training and protocols.
  3. Competent in five work stations or areas as defined by the section.
  4. Perform and monitor quality control, establish quality assurance, and participate in quality improvement programs to ensure accuracy of test results.
  5. Perform calibration, maintenance, and performance checks on instrumentation, and participate in preparing and evaluating maintenance schedules and procedures for new equipment, including writing technical procedures per regulatory standards.
  6. Troubleshoot instrumentation, reagents, inventory, and patient samples as issues arise and evaluate methods for solutions.
  7. Act as charge tech when assigned, and assist in training and mentoring new staff and interns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or Medical Laboratory Science.
  2. Completion of a NAACLS-approved CLS/MLS/MT training program.

  1. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. One year of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Competency in multiple laboratory work stations, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and good communication skills.

License/Certifications:

  1. Current certification as a Medical Technologist MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA), or MLS(ASCP), or eligibility to obtain certification.
  2. Hired as eligible must pass certification exams within three attempts over 12 months.
