Job summary

University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform routine and specialized tests across core lab areas and to accession specimens with accuracy. You will help maintain instrument performance and support various departments in diagnostic testing.

You will also provide clerical support, manage inventory, and ensure patient confidentiality while collaborating with clinicians to deliver timely and precise results in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• To perform a variety of routine or specialized tests and procedures.
• Provide Clerical/Administrative Support and answer calls.
• Scan documents, organize files, and document test results.
• Identify and correct incorrect orders and specimen issues.
• Communicate with lab staff, clinicians, and customers while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Manage inventory, stock lab supplies, and reconcile invoices.
• Accessioning, specimen processing, and distribution.
• Access LIS/HIS to accession patient specimens and obtain missing information.
• Assist in problem-solving for duplicate tests and missing samples.
• Work with lab personnel to process casework efficiently.
• Assist medical staff during procedures when required.
• Perform daily maintenance and operate instruments for waived to high complexity testing.
• Enter test results and monitor reagents and supplies.
