Job summary

Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor is seeking a Medical Technologist for a full-time evening shift (3pm–11pm) with rotating weekends and on-call. You will perform a wide range of waived to high-complexity testing across Core Laboratory areas, accession specimens, report results, and ensure quality and patient confidentiality.

This role requires a Bachelor's in medical laboratory science or related field, MLS/MT certification or eligibility, and strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or other biological science.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist or eligibility for certification at the time of hire.
• Specialized laboratories may accept a Bachelor's degree in a biological science with certification eligibility specific to that laboratory.
• Demonstrated successful clinical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate medical terminology and technical procedures.
• Demonstrate ability to identify and take appropriate actions with clinical results.
• Demonstrate effective organizational skills within a lab setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of routine or specialized tests and procedures for diagnosis and treatment in one or more lab areas.
• Answer calls, monitor call list, report results and document calls as needed.
• Accession and process samples with accuracy and appropriate routing.
• Identify and correct incorrect orders and specimen issues.
• Communicate with lab staff, clinicians, and customers to meet service expectations and protect patient confidentiality.
• Manage inventory, receive shipments, stock lab supplies, and reconcile invoices.
• Assist leadership in developing technical procedures and projects.
