Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, seeks a Blood Bank Lab Technologist to perform, check accuracy and report results of routine and complex laboratory procedures on blood products and related specimens.

You will assist with evaluating new instruments, reagent prep, QC data, troubleshooting, and quality improvement activities within a high-acuity, academic medical center setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory or related field and 1 year of related experience.
• ASCP or AMT certification must be obtained within 15 months from date of hire.
• BLS certification may be required within 30 days depending on patient care performed.

• Assist supervisor and/or team lead with evaluating new instruments and/or methods, reagent preparation, quality control information, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.
• Assist team lead with apheresis procedures, bone marrows, coordinating educational sessions, computer operations, and/or quality control/improvement activities within a section as needed.

Pay range: $27.85 - $45.25 / hour

Sign-on bonus: $15,000 new hire sign-on bonus may be available (full-time only)

Job Description

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Certification from ASCP or AMT must be obtained within fifteen (15) months from date of hire. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required within thirty (30) days from date of hire depending on the type of patient related care performed.
