Job summary

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment in Orlando, FL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst/Medical Technologist to perform diverse analyses supporting veterinary care and conservation programs. You will follow lab procedures, maintain records, and process samples for animal health research and care.

The role requires a BS in a related field, ASCP certification or CLS/MT experience, and proficiency with lab instrumentation and data entry.

Qualifications

• BS degree in a related science field is required.
• ASCP certification and CLS/MT experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of microbiology diagnostics and QC procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory analyses to support animal health management in the park, rescues, rehabilitation, and release programs.
• Follows lab procedures per regulations and uses standard lab practices.
• Enter and maintains test results and records in digital systems.
• Prepare samples and manage laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Interact with park guests and staff with professionalism and safety.

Job description

What you get to do:

Perform laboratory analyses to enable veterinarians and curators to properly manage the health of the animal collection in the park and the animals rescued, rehabilitated, and returned back into the wild. Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job. Follows laboratory procedures according to federal, state and local regulations. Follows engineering and work practice controls for laboratory workers. Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, mycology, parasitology, urinalysis, cytology and water chemistry. Computes and prepares test results. Maintains records and enters data into computer. Prepares and processes samples and maintains records for animal care and research projects. Maintains laboratory supplies and equipment. Dispenses vitamins and other supplies as needed. Assists and participates in animal care projects as needed. Ensures excellent animal care service by responding to team's requirements, expectations and needs. Other related duties as assigned.

What it takes to succeed:

At least 18 years old. Bachelor of Science degree in a related field. Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist experience. Registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, including QC and Troubleshooting. Working knowledge of Microbiology diagnostics and the Vitek2 preferred. Prepare laboratory reports and enter results in digital medical records. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications, spreadsheets and databases. Able to sit, walk, talk, use hands, hear, smell and have color vision. Able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to handle multiple tasks at once and work in a fast-paced work environment. Able to work indoors with several large and small laboratory instruments as well as refrigeration and freezer units which create moderate noise. Able to work with limited exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and radiation. Protective equipment is provided when necessary. Able to positively interact with park guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs. Veterinary experience preferred. Animal or aquatic animal laboratory diagnostics experience preferred.

What else is important:

Have 5 days of unrestricted availability to include weekends and holidays. 40 hours per week. Overtime hours may be necessary upon business need.
