Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Technologist (MT) for the Laboratory department in High Point, NC. This 3rd shift position runs 8pm–6:30am on a 7-on/7-off schedule, with responsibilities across routine testing, blood component preparation, sample collection support, and instrument operation.

The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree or have completed a NAACLS MT program, with MT ASCP certification. At least five years of clinical lab experience is required, or two years with MLT

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or NAACLS MT program + 5 years clinical lab experience, or 2 years with MLT certification.
• Previous MT experience preferred.
• MT ASCP certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests and provides accurate results for patient care.
• Prepares and issues blood components for transfusions.
• Assists in collection and transport of patient samples to lab sections.
• Handles hazardous materials per regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
• Maintains inventories of supplies and equipment for lab operations.
• Supervises and trains students and junior technicians.

Position Highlights:

• Shift Schedule:3rd shift,7 on/7 off, Wednesday-Tuesday, 8pm-0630am
• Department:Laboratory
• Location:High Point

Education/Experience/Certifications to Qualify:

• Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) Medical Technologist program, five years' clinical lab experience, or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification.
• Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred.
• Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP certification required.

How You’ll Impact Patient Care:

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Performs and provides accurate laboratory test results on human patients.
• Prepares and issues blood components for patient transfusions.
• Assists in the collection and transport of patient samples from the clinics to laboratory sections.
• Handles hazardous materials in accordance with regulations to ensure safe working environment.
• Requisitions and maintain inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment as needed for laboratory operations.
• Supervises, trains, and reviews the work of students and lower-level technicians engaged in clinical laboratory work.
• Operates complex specialized laboratory instruments; instructs other personnel in the use and operations of these instruments.
• Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses and other ancillary professional staff when discussing procedures.

Work Environment:

• Frequent exposure to infections, contagious diseases, and the risk of bloodborne diseases.
• Exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids, waste, odorous chemicals and specimens.
• Subject to electrical, radiant energy and radiation hazards.
• Exposure to a variety of electro-mechanical/power equipment.
• Exposure to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals.
• Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment.
• Subject to long irregular hours.
