Job summary

OneBlood is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform basic through advanced testing on patient and donor samples at the Bay Pines VA Healthcare location. The role includes interpreting results in line with regulatory guidelines and internal policies.

The full-time position operates on a 10-hour schedule, Sunday to Wednesday, with a weekend differential of $4.50 per hour based on hours worked. The candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in a biological science with at least 1 year of MT

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field and 1 year MT experience or equivalent.
• Florida CLT license in Immunohematology/Blood Banking required; CLIA high complexity testing may apply in states without licensure.
• Must be able to read and interpret technical procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Accepts, verifies and processes incoming blood and blood components or samples.
• Performs and interprets testing procedures on donor and patient specimens and blood products.
• Maintains and monitors records and files, written or electronic.
• Performs quality control, equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Identifies and resolves potential patient care issues related to transfusion.
• Oversees Lab Assistants and Lab Technicians as required.
• Uses computer systems to obtain data and record results.
• Participates in ongoing monitoring to identify errors.
• Participates in on-call rotation.
• Performs essential Lab Technician/Assistant functions as needed.

• Accepts, verifies and processes incoming blood and blood components or samples
• Performs and interprets various testing procedures on donor and patient specimens as well as blood products, repeating tests where appropriate
• Maintains and monitors required records and files, written or electronic
• Performs quality control, equipment maintenance and calibration as required
• Identifies and resolves potential patient care issues related to transfusion
• Provides oversight and direction of Lab Assistants and Lab Technicians as required
• Utilizes computer system to obtain necessary data and to record test results
• Participates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors
• Participates in an on-call rotation
• Performs the essential functions of the Lab Technician and Lab Assistant as needed.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related scientific field from an accredited college or universit y and one (1) year of Medical Technologist experience or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:

I n Florida, a valid and current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking. In certain specialty laboratories other Florida licenses may be required. If working in a state without laboratory personnel licensure requirements, must meet current CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to periodically perform moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
