These positions are located at the VA Medical Center in Tampa, FL, serving as a Medical Technician in the Central Phlebotomy and Processing Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. The role involves collecting, accessioning, and processing specimens from outpatient and inpatient populations.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, you must meet one of the following:

• ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in English to meet the requirements.

AND

• Selective Placement Factor: Experience performing phlebotomy/blood draws on human patients.

AND

• Experience: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent, involving technical medical laboratory support such as performing laboratory tests and examinations, or related biological laboratory work, following detailed procedures involving meticulous steps.

• Education: Successful completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree or at least 24 semester hours in relevant subjects. (Transcripts Required)

~OR~

• Combination: Equivalent combinations of post-high school education and specialized experience, with education exceeding 60 semester hours credited toward experience. (Transcripts Required)

Physical Requirements

The position involves extensive physical activity such as standing for long periods, bending, lifting, walking, stooping, and stretching. Work may be required on weekends, holidays, and nights.
