The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Medical Technician 2 for the Cytogenetics department in Houston. You’ll process specimens, perform tissue culture, slide staining, and metaphase analysis, while ensuring quality control and adherence to procedures.
You will manage workflow, assist with inventory and equipment, and may train new staff. The role emphasizes collaboration, customer service, and ongoing adherence to policies and safety standards.
As a Medical Technician 2 with our Cytogenetics department, you'll play an important role in the specialized laboratory work that supports cancer diagnosis and patient care. Your expertise will help ensure patient specimens are accurately processed, clinical testing is performed according to established procedures, and high-quality results are delivered to the teams caring for patients at one of the world's leading cancer centers.
What's in it for you? This is an opportunity to build advanced expertise in cytogenetics while working independently with complex clinical specimens and specialized laboratory techniques. You'll perform tissue culture, harvest, slide staining and scanning while evaluating specimen type, disease state, culture conditions, testing requirements, metaphase preparations, and appropriate staining for analysis. You'll also evaluate specimen integrity, troubleshoot pre-analytical issues, and ensure required quality control and quality assurance activities are completed and documented.
You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of laboratory workflow while becoming a trusted resource within the section. You'll prioritize work to meet productivity goals, help manage inventory and supplies, maintain instruments and equipment, and stay current on procedures and policies. You'll also have the opportunity to share your expertise by instructing new personnel and students on cytogenetic theories, techniques, and processes.
Beyond the technical work, you'll contribute to a laboratory environment focused on collaboration and service. You'll work with internal and external customers, communicate effectively when resolving issues, and remain calm and helpful in challenging situations. MD Anderson offers competitive pay, an annual merit increase program, annual incentive opportunities, an employer-funded pension contribution, medical, dental and vision coverage, generous paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
Bring your technical expertise and attention to detail to a Cytogenetics team where your work can help support the accurate results that guide cancer care.
