The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to join a world-renowned cancer care, research, education and prevention organization.

With multiple Houston-area locations, the role supports patient care under RN supervision, performs routine tasks, and helps with daily living activities while maintaining safety and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year Medical Assistant experience or completion of an accredited MA program (including externship).
• Preferred CPR certification and MA credentials (CPR upon hire, CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA optional).

Responsibilities

• Record vital signs accurately and report abnormalities to nursing staff.
• Assist patients with daily living activities, rooming and intake of vitals.
• Support RN/MLP/MD with procedures and administrative tasks as needed.

Key Functions

Assists Staff

• Accurately record vital signs and other data, report abnormalities to nursing staff.
• Completion of routine patient care assignments as delegated.

Assists Patients

• Aids in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, greeting, rooming, and vital signs on all patients registered in clinic.
• Reports to RN/MLP/MD any vital sign falling outside of normal parameters.
• Records height, weight, oxygen saturation, and presence of pain on progress note.
• Assist with any procedures, or administrative tasks, under RN supervision

Work Environment

• Maintains environment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
• Stock and maintain unit and patient care supplies and equipment.
• Check expiration dates of all dated supplies and discard or return them according to institutional guidelines.
• Maintain processing rooms, including sterile processing, High Level Disinfection, quality control, logs, etc.

Effective Communication

• Escalates significant events and concerns regarding patients and their care to appropriate nursing staff.
• Responsible for the security and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Assist in the reception area as needed, answers telephones, recording information on appropriate note and distribute to appropriate staff.

Education

• Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent and
• Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program including externship/practicum. or
• Preferred: Graduate of a U.S. Military medical services training program.

Work Experience

• Required: 1 year Medical Assistant experience. or
• Required: No experience required with completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program (including externship/practicum) or U.S. Military medical training.

Licenses and Certifications

• Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire and
• Preferred: CMA - Certified Medical Assistant American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Upon Hire or
• Preferred: RMA - Registered Medical Assistant American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT). Upon Hire or
• Preferred: CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Upon Hire or
• Preferred: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Upon Hire
