Job summary

The Salvation Army Harbor Light in Detroit is seeking a qualified nurse (PN or RN) to support the medical department and assist in detoxification services. You will handle inquiries, conduct pre-admission screenings, and help coordinate admissions and discharges within a team-based medical setting.

Responsibilities include maintaining medical records, scheduling, staff training, and emergency actions per Harbor Light protocol.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current valid PN or RN license.
• Experience in substance abuse treatment preferred.

• Schedule monthly team meetings with Medical Director/PA.
• Train staff on day-to-day procedures.
• Prepare medical supplies inventory with staff.
• Follow Harbor Light protocol for emergencies to ensure medical stability.
• Assist Medical Director/PA in provision of medical services.
• Maintain daily medical unit records, charts and logs.

Summary:

Assist the Site Administrator with the day-to-day operations of the medical department, while still serving in the medical healthcare provider role.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage all inquiries with regards to information, referral, and/or possible admission
• Conduct pre-admission screenings of potential clients for detoxification services
• Schedule detoxification admissions/discharges to detoxification and residential programs, including completion of all required medical documents
• Review all detoxification protocol applications
• Verification that medical charts have been closed properly
• Provide coverage for call-off’s and no-show’s
• Conduct ADIA admissions/discharge for detoxification clients
• Create monthly medical staff schedule
• Schedule monthly team meeting with the Physician’s Assistant and/or Medical Director
• Conduct staff training for new medical employees and notify current employees of any changes in day-to-day procedures
• Prepare order and inventory of medical supplies with assistance of medical staff
• Take appropriate action as directed by Medical Director to ensure clients medical stability and in cases emergency facilitate assistance per Harbor Light protocol
• Assist Medical Director, Physician’s Assistant, and/or designate in the provision of medical services
• Ensure all records, charts, logs and all other pertinent data for medical unit are maintained on a daily basis

Required Qualifications:

• Must have and maintain a current valid Practical Nurse (PN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
• Experience in substance abuse preferred
