Job description

The Department of Veterans Affairs, Indianapolis VA Medical Center, is seeking motivated individuals to join their team as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant. The Medical Center is hiring at multiple locations with varying tour of duties.

The duties of the Medical Support Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing administrative support in a healthcare setting.
  • Scheduling appointments and managing patient flow.
  • Assisting with patient inquiries and data entry.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

Applicants pending completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. All other requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Must be a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Experience and Education:
    • Six months experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work indicating the ability to perform the duties of the position.
    • OR One year above high school.
    • OR An equivalent combination of experience and education.

Grade Determination:

Applicants must possess at least one year of experience at or equivalent to GS-5 (Full Performance level), demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the work of the position.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians to accomplish team goals.
  • Ability to independently set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Effective communication skills, electronically, by phone, in person, and in writing, including preparing reports and resolving patient concerns.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare processes related to access to care.
  • Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures affecting patient flow and administrative functions.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology used by clinicians.
