The New Jersey VA Healthcare System, East Orange Campus is currently recruiting for one Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) in the Office of Community Care Section located in the Business Office. The VA Community Care Clinic coordinates all Veterans health care needs outside of the VAHCS. The AMSA position serves as an Inpatient and Outpatient Consult Coordinator for Community Care.

The AMSA participates in daily team meetings where the group reviews an individual's medical care requirements and formulate a health care plan for delivering the utmost optimal level of health care in the appropriate setting. the incumbent s instrumental by finding solutions within his/her scope of responsibility to resolve patients medical needs or expedite delivery of patients medical healthcare.
Advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community operational activities that affect patient flow, and patient support care administrative functions to include, but not limited to appointment cycles, outside patient referrals, follow-up care, overbooking, provider availability, etc.
Ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of medical clinicians across multiple disciplines (e.g. medical doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, clinical pharmacists, and nursing staff) to accomplish team goal setting to ensure medical care to patients is met.
Incumbent is responsible for utilizing a comprehensive, organized, program to review and identify opportunities for improvement to achieve excellence in the quality and safety of the care, treatment, and services provided to patients.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
