Job summary

A summer camp organization is seeking a Medical Summer Staff member to manage the medical station, ensuring safety and cleanliness. Job Purpose

To fulfill our mission by managing Camp Eagle’s medical station to be a safe and clean environment, provide medical treatment to campers and staff when necessary, administer medication to campers, and comply with all required documentation per the Texas Administrative Code for Youth Camps. Follows Camp Eagle Medical Protocol. Communicate with Camp Eagle’s Program Directors, Church leaders, guests, and campers' Parents about their injuries and treatment. Organize and communicate emergency transportation be it ambulance and or air evacuations. A primary function of this job at Camp Eagle is to ensure that each staff member, guest, and visitor receives the highest caliber of service.

Job Duties/General
  1. Be prepared to speak about and share the gospel with our guests through words and actions.
  2. Oversee the preseason set-up and the postseason closing of the Medical Station, which includes performing an opening and closing inventory of all supplies and equipment, cleaning the medical station on a daily/weekly basis, and organizing supplies.
  3. Assist the Medical Director in ordering supplies/equipment as needed and approved.
  4. Familiarize yourself with Camp Eagle’s Medical Protocols and standing orders approved by a designated physician, and follow protocols with campers and staff.
  5. Assess and assist with the health and hygiene needs of campers.
  6. Review, organize, and sign off that you have read the camper’s health history form before every new session of camp.
  7. Identify pertinent camper medical needs (allergies, special diets, etc.) and ensure that this information is communicated with the Medical Director so they can communicate with other camp staff.
  8. Collect all camper and staff medications, dispensing medications at meals and bedtime or according to medication directions.
  9. Care for all health concerns and incidents as much as possible and determine when an emergency or hospital care is necessary, always following the established procedures as assigned by the camp Medical Director.
  10. Administer medication and treatment to campers throughout their stay at camp.
  11. Provide for proper Wilderness First Aid intervention regarding camper and/or staff illness, condition, or emergency care make appropriate referrals, and provide for follow‑up care as warranted; as outlined in Camp Eagle’s Medical Protocol.
  12. Keep records regarding the administration of medication, prescribed treatments, and other health and medical needs.
  13. Prepare first aid kits for program areas, and Camp Eagle’s vehicle fleet that complies with state camp licensing codes.
  14. Inform all staff, during staff training and ongoing through summer about the camp’s health policies, how to ensure safety throughout camp, and how to seek care for a health‑related incident or emergency.
  15. Follow state and ACA standards in maintaining such medical records.
  16. Make rounds throughout the camp checking on campers during their activities.
  17. Report facility and ground health risk factors to the Medical Director.
  18. Complete and follow up on Injury incident reports through Salesforce.
  19. Complete Activity Incident Reports through Salesforce.
  20. Communicate with the Program heads to secure cabin lists to be able to inform the summer staff as necessary regarding the medical conditions or allergies of their campers. This must be done always with confidentiality in mind.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Aspects of the Job
  1. Ability to verbally communicate and work with youth, youth leaders, and other staff.
  2. Provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
  3. Ability to visually and auditorily observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce relevant safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  4. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  5. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring First Aid.
  6. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, and/or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  7. Endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking, long distances, hiking‑climbing, and stretching; requires eye‑hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities.
  8. Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs.
  9. The ability to lift to 50 pounds.
  10. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities.
  11. Daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, wild boars, etc.
  12. Ability to work long hours, with one day off a week. The medical station is open from 7 am to 12 pm every night that camp is in session.
Compensation

The Medical Summer Staff position pays $2,500 for the entire summer.

Summer Contracted Dates

This is a summer contracted position to be filled May through August.
