Hours typically 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with potential six-hour shifts and 40-hour overtime as needed, contingent on background check and client needs. The position requires basic medical assisting duties, knowledge of EMR systems, and strong customer service

About this position

About this position this position – This will be a long-term contract for one year with possible extension to support one of our clients within the DMV. As Medical Services Assistant, your shift will be based on our client’s needs for this position, and typically you’ll work from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one (1) hour unpaid lunch break. Temporary personnel may require to work six (6) hours or more. Overtime in excess of forty (40) hours in one week is considered as overtime work, all overtime must be approved by the COTR in advance. Any assignment will be contingent upon a successfully completion of a background check, in accordance with applicable law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for clinic patient flow, informing physicians of patients’ arrival and room assignment.
• Accompanies and/or assists patients in the exam room in a professional manner.
• Obtains patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration. Pulse oximetry if needed.
• Able to perform using manual equipment and Welch Allen spot vital sign machine and import results to electronic medical record in a timely fashion.
• May be required to take patient medical history if applicable per department.
• May perform a variety of testing, diagnostic, and screening procedures.
• Assists in explaining test procedures to patients.
• Medication’s ability to calculate dosages (may be required to demonstrate via passing yearly written medication exam).
• Administer medications (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, inhalation, rectal, topical) using proper technique – this duty can only be performed after the MA has demonstrated competency to clinic RN yearly, if applicable per department.
• Others tasks may be assigned to this role based on client’s facility needs.

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant (Certified, Certified Clinical, Registered, or a certificate of completion from your school is preferred, but not required) Proof of current certification is needed if you are a CMA.
• Nurse (LPN) Must provide proof of current certification
• Two years of clinical experience preferred
• Ability to escort or transport a patient by wheelchair when appropriate.
• BLS/CPR certification required.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• We do not accept CNA’s, EMT’s, or PMD’s.

Experience

• Strong customer service and problem-solving / communication skills
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of EMR system.
• Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills.
• Perform clinical intake including obtaining patient’s medical history, current medications, chief complaint, obtain vital signs and records information within EMR system.
• Administer medications, dress/bandage wounds, draw blood and assist provider with any procedures in/out of exam room.
• Perform diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, audiogram, peak flow, and other basic nursing functions.
• Perform both DOT and Non-DOT urine drug screens, using proper chain of custody; ensure preparation for pick-up and shipment to appropriate laboratory. (On-the-job Training)
• Monitor disposable inventory, medical supplies, and pharmaceuticals.
• Complete medical charting to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
