POSITION SUMMARY : As Intercept continues to build its position as the leader in rare and serious liver disease, we are seeking a Medical Science Liaison. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based Medical Affairs professional responsible for scientific exchange with thought leaders and healthcare professionals in their region. The MSL will serve as a scientific expert in rare and serious liver disease and associated treatments, including those of Intercept Pharmaceuticals, supporting the company's medical and scientific programs in line with corporate goals. The Northeast MSL covers New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Develop and maintain relationships with thought leaders, investigators, providers, and professional organizations within the assigned geography.
- Effectively communicate scientific and clinical information related to the therapeutic area and Intercept's products to healthcare professionals and researchers.
- Lead strategic planning and execution for congresses, including creating plans and managing pre/post communications.
- Deliver impactful presentations at various settings such as advisory boards, patient advocacy groups, and healthcare decision-makers.
- Support research initiatives and clinical site investigators as needed.
- Facilitate investigator-initiated research proposals and serve as a liaison between corporate functions and HCPs.
- Monitor industry trends and provide feedback to senior leadership.
- Maintain scientific expertise through continuous learning and literature review.
- Represent the company at scientific conferences and meetings.
- Collaborate across departments including Medical Affairs, R&D, and Commercial.
- Develop and nurture relationships with key thought leaders in healthcare, academia, and government, focusing on scientific exchange and practice change.
- Identify and support investigator-initiated studies aligned with Medical Affairs objectives.
- Respond to scientific inquiries, providing appropriate and differentiated information about Intercept's products.
- Review and contribute to scientific evidence used in exchanges and communications.
- Support activities such as congress staffing, advisory boards, and training initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Master's degree in biomedical sciences or healthcare-related field; MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, DNP preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience as an MSL or 4 years in a clinical or pharma/biotech customer-facing role.
- Experience in gastroenterology/hepatology is a plus.
- Residency within the territory or within territory boundaries.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES :
- Ability to travel up to 70%, including overnight and weekend travel.
- Proficiency with Veeva, Microsoft Office, and related platforms.
- Strong scientific presentation and communication skills.
- Understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and industry ethical guidelines.

Compensation :
The anticipated salary range is $170,000 to $195,000, based on experience and performance. This is part of a total compensation package including various benefits.
