We are seeking an experienced Medical Reviewer with an ophthalmology background to support a Medical Affairs organization on a contract basis. This individual will be responsible for the medical and scientific review of a broad range of materials across promotional, non-promotional, pipeline, and clinical activities. The strongest candidates will have 3–5 years of direct Medical Review experience within an MLR (Medical, Legal, Regulatory) environment and a doctorate-level degree. Previous experience with Veeva PromoMats is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Medical Reviewer within the MLR process, providing medical and scientific review of materials.
- Review both promotional and non-promotional content, as well as materials supporting pipeline and clinical programs.
- Evaluate materials for medical accuracy, scientific validity, appropriate interpretation of clinical data, and consistency with supporting evidence.
- Review clinical claims, references, data presentations, scientific messaging, and disease-state information.
- Participate directly in MLR review meetings and provide clear, actionable medical feedback.
- Review materials throughout development and revision cycles and partner with stakeholders to resolve medical comments.
- Work cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Commercial, Clinical, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Support content submission, review, and approval workflows through Veeva PromoMats.
- Independently manage multiple reviews, priorities, and deadlines.
Qualifications
- Doctorate-level degree required. MD, DO, OD, PharmD, PhD, or another relevant doctorate will be considered.
Required Skills
- 3–5 years of direct Medical Review experience within an MLR environment.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing materials within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related life sciences industry.
- Strong understanding of medical/scientific claims, clinical data, published literature, and supporting references.
- Experience reviewing a variety of promotional and non-promotional materials.
- Ability to work independently and provide confident medical guidance within cross-functional review discussions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent review projects.
Preferred Skills
- Veeva PromoMats experience highly preferred.
- Previous ophthalmology experience, prioritized in the following therapeutic areas:
- Retina
- Cornea
- Experience reviewing pipeline and clinical materials in addition to marketed-product content.
- Previous experience supporting Medical Affairs within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology organization.
Contract Structure
- Contract position.
- Candidate should be comfortable operating independently and integrating quickly into an established MLR review process.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate combines hands-on MLR medical review expertise with ophthalmology knowledge. Therapeutic area experience is important, but the primary requirement is someone who can step into the Medical Reviewer function with 3–5 years of direct MLR experience, confidently review a wide variety of materials, and work effectively within established review and Veeva PromoMats workflows.
