US Indian Health Service is seeking a Medical Records Coder to perform technical coding assignments for accurate claims submission at facilities in Pine Ridge, SD and Kyle, SD.
Qualified applicants will have at least 1 year of specialized experience at GS-07 level and must obtain a coding certification within one year of appointment (CPC or AHIMA). A recruitment incentive may apply for new appointees and relocation incentives are available for current federal employees.
The incumbent will perform technical medical records coding assignments designed for accurate claims submission.
A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Incentive maybe authorized up to 25% of base pay.
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-08: One (1)year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level that equipped me with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples Include: Identify medical record code issues and correct sequencing properties. Use of excellent customer service to collaborate with medical providers to ensure diagnostic terminology meets medical nomenclature. Use medical coding principles for accurate submittal, ICD-10 CM, CPT, HCPCS Codes, billing, and tracking. Operate a variety of office automated systems to submit coding transactions.
Condition of Employment: In order to meet the condition of employment, you must possess or obtain coding certification within one year of initial appointment to this position.
The first Cut-off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will begin on July 29th,2026 and then every Friday thereafter for the life of the recruit.
