Job summary

The role requires accuracy, ability to work with HIPAA guidelines, and collaboration with healthcare professionals; involves scanning, coding with ICD/CPT, and assisting the billing team while upholding confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Keyboarding and computer skills.
• Completion of medical terminology course preferred or willing to complete within one year of hire.
• Prior experience with medical coding or willing to complete a medical coding course within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, scan, and organize patient medical records
• Process medical record requests in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies
• Assign ICD and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures
• Assist with birth certificates, statistical reports, and medical staff files
• Review records for completeness and communicate with providers regarding documentation
• Support the billing department with coding-related claim issues
• Answer phones, respond to emails, and complete general clerical duties
• Maintain strict patient confidentiality
• Perform other duties as assigned
