Job summary

Prime Healthcare is seeking a Medical Records Coding Coordinator at our St Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. The role focuses on reviewing records, assigning ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes, and ensuring accurate data entry into the health information system.

A CCS/RHIT/RHIA certification and 3+ years of acute care coding experience are preferred. The position is full-time, dayshift, with no weekends or holidays.

Qualifications

• Certification as CCS/RHIT/RHIA required or licensed/certified in health information coding
• Minimum 3 years experience coding and abstracting in an acute care setting
• Basic computer experience is required
• Encoder software knowledge is preferred for code assignment
• 10-key typing with accuracy and speed is preferred (35 wpm)
• College level courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and coding ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS are required
• ICD-10 training is required
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with multiple departments

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical records to assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for all services
• Enter and validate coded and abstracted patient information within the electronic health information system
• Ensure coding is completed accurately and timely per regulatory and hospital guidelines
• Collaborate with departments, corporate teams, and coding vendors to support coding and charge-entry
• Identify and help resolve DNFB issues related to documentation or system delays
