Job summary

Harrison County Hospital is seeking a Certified Medical Coder (CCS) to join our HIM team on a PRN, day shift basis.

You will assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT procedure codes for inpatient and outpatient charts, ensuring compliance with Medicare/Medicaid rules and corporate policies, under the HIM Director. Qualified candidates have CCS certification, strong medical terminology knowledge, and at least one year coding experience in hospital or clinical settings.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent ICD-10-CM, CPT, and CCS coding skills.
• Detailed knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology.
• One year coding experience in hospital or physician settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT procedure codes for inpatient and outpatient charts.
• Billings classification and coding for medical records in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Report to HIM Director and ensure compliance with regulations.

The Coder reports directly to the HIM Director. The Coder performs the assignment of ICD-10 diagnosis and procedures and CPT procedure codes for billing and classification of medical records for both Inpatient and Outpatient charts.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have detailed knowledge of third party reimbursement rules and regulations including Medicare and Medicaid.
• Complies and adheres to the Corporate Compliance Program.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Must be able to speak English fluently.
• Must be able to speak and understand medical terminology.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Must have high school education.
• Must have excellent ICD-10-CM, CPT, and CCS coding skills.
• Must have detailed knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology.
• Desire one year coding work experience in the hospital or physician setting.
• Desire a certified coding specialist, accredited record technician, registered records administrator.
