Griffin Health in Connecticut seeks a Medical Records Clerk to maintain file integrity by filing, assembling, and retrieving confidential patient records, including admissions and master patient index maintenance.
Responsibilities include scanning paper records into the EHR, reviewing images for accuracy, and assisting with patient records requests while adhering to HIPAA and state/federal guidelines. Six months of office experience is required, with medical office experience preferred.
MAIN FUNCTION: Maintains medical record integrity through filing, assembling, and retrieving confidential patient records, processes admissions, maintains master patient index, makes folders for new patient records, performs audits.
Ensures an accurate and complete medical record by scanning paper medical record documents into EHR. Performs qualitative and quantitative review of scanned images to assure accuracy and legibility.
Assigns patient charts for approved external reviews through electronic health record review routines.
Maintains Master patient Index by performing daily review and merge of duplicate numbers
Maintains paper files by tracking, retrieving or purging patient files.
Adherence to HIPAA, federal and state guidelines regarding the protection of patient health information.
Provides assistance to patients calling or presenting to department for records requests/needs.
Supports all areas of Medical Records Functions.
EDUCATION: High school
EXPERIENCE:Six months office experience required. Medical office experience strongly preferred. Medical terminology preferred.
