What You Will Do
- Obtain, verify, update and scan patient information and provide support services to patients and medical staff.
- Verify patient’s current insurance coverage through insurance websites.
- Collect and post co-pays and past due balances, and complete any necessary forms obtaining signatures as necessary.
- Obtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
- Manage referrals through EMR.
- Follow all incentive guidelines by helping the practice meet a variety of incentive program goals, including Meaningful Use and Patient Centered Medical Home.
- Perform daily banking through Virtual Merchant and FRMC cashiers.
- Prepare a daily financial spreadsheet for practice.
- Ensure the submission of timely, accurate and complete information to the Central Billing Office.
- Use collection management reports to keep accounts receivable current.
- Look for instances of Red Flag Identity theft patterns and report potential threats to Privacy Officer.
- Request, locate, send and receive patient medical records according to federal, state or local guidelines.
- Maintain medical appointments for patients.
- Answer phones in a pleasant manner, screen calls following clinic guidelines to appropriately and expeditiously direct caller.
- Maintain clean, orderly waiting area including patient message board, children’s area, and reading materials.
- Organize and maintain an inventory system to ensure adequate levels of supplies with emphasis on patient care and cost containment.
What You Will Need
- High school graduate; vocational education preferred. Experience in medical ambulatory setting.
- Current CPR certification or obtained within 3 months of employment and maintained.
- Proficient in the use of personal computers with strong typing skills. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word is desired.
- Interpersonal: Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients and families, co-workers and the public. Effective communication skills in writing and verbally with medical staff, patients, families, co-workers, and insurance companies. Skill in report preparation and presentation. Ability to remain calm and poised in urgent situations.
- Critical Thinking: Initiative, judgment, problem-solving, decision-making, data analysis, report preparation, time management, and organization skills. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge: Organization policies, procedures, systems, medical office procedures, medical terminology, computer systems, and regulations.
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands auto policy. Proof of personal automobile liability insurance required upon request.
