Job description

Cumberland House Surgery is seeking an enthusiastic, understanding, flexible, and well-organized individual to join our busy doctors' surgery team.

Our reception team is led by Office Manager Mariam, and the clinical team includes 2 GP Partners, 4 salaried GPs, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, 1 Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Pharmacist, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant, and 2 Phlebotomists, all supportive and caring.

Applicants must be available for both morning (starting at 8:00 am) and afternoon shifts (finishing at 6:30 pm). Working days will be discussed at interview, with flexibility needed to cover holidays and sickness.

The successful candidate will be able to join the NHS Pension Scheme and take 5.5 weeks of annual leave, excluding bank holidays.

Previous experience in a GP practice is preferable but not essential, as training will be provided. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Main duties of the job

The duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Opening and closing the practice premises, maintaining security according to practice protocols.
  • Processing telephone requests for appointments, visits, and consultations, directing patients to the appropriate healthcare professional.
  • Taking messages and passing on information.
  • Data entry, collation, and processing in accordance with practice procedures.
  • Responding to requests from patients, team members, and healthcare agencies.
  • Providing clerical support such as word processing, photocopying, and scanning.

Job Description

Job Title: Medical Receptionist

Hours of Work: 25 hours per week

Responsible to: Practice Manager & Partners

Purpose of the Post:

To efficiently complete reception duties following guidelines set by doctors and management.

Confidentiality:

The work is highly confidential; no medical or personal information should be disclosed outside the practice.

Reception Duties:

  1. Greeting and directing patients and visitors in a helpful manner.
  2. Handling appointment requests.
  3. Processing home visit requests.
  4. Explaining practice procedures to new or temporary patients.
  5. Advising on charges for non-NHS services, accepting payments, and issuing receipts.
  6. Responding to queries from patients and visitors.

Telephone Duties:

  1. Scheduling appointments.
  2. Processing visit requests.
  3. Taking and passing messages.
  4. Making calls as requested, including ambulance orders.

Other Duties:

  1. Preparing repeat prescriptions for GP signatures.
  2. Scanning medical records and correspondence.
  3. Operating the appointment system and other computer systems.
  4. Maintaining tidiness in reception and waiting areas.
  5. Ensuring the building is secure before leaving.
  6. Following health & safety policies and procedures.
  7. Maintaining good relationships with team members and external agencies.
  8. Identifying training needs and participating in relevant training.
  9. Attending staff meetings as required.
