Summary Job Description
Perform all medical receptionist functions at primary care and community-based health centers for underserved populations. The Medical Receptionist reports to the Health Center Administrator.
Population Served
- Pediatric (0 - 19 yrs)
- Adult (19 – 64 yrs)
- Geriatric (65 yrs & older)
- Bariatric Patients: BMI > 40, or > 35 with weight-related comorbidities
- Patient with exceptional communication needs
- Patient with developmental delays
- Patient at the end of life
- Patient under isolation precautions
- All populations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for all front desk functions in a primary care setting
- Schedule appointments and specialty/ancillary appointments
- Complete managed care referrals and obtain pre-certifications when needed
- Verify insurance
- Perform daily batching of encounter forms
- Log referrals in the tracking system and follow up for specialist reports
- Arrange transportation for patients when needed
- Assist patients and review charts for completion
- File reports and charts
- Perform other duties as assigned
PHMC Compliance Responsibilities
- Understand and adhere to PHMC compliance standards, the PHMC Code of Conduct, Whistleblowers, and Conflict of Interest Policies
- Stay abreast of all federal, state, and PHMC regulations and policies as they change
- Comply with HIPAA, confidentiality policies, and procedures; Department of Public Health, The Joint Commission, and other accreditation agencies’ standards
- Adhere to all PHMC policies and procedures and infection control guidelines

Experience
- At least one (1) year of experience in a medical office environment
Education
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Physical Demands
Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, sitting < 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger/handle 2/3 of the time, reaching with hands and arms < 1/3 of the time, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling < 1/3 of the time, talking or hearing > 2/3 of the time; lifts up to 10 lbs up to 1/3 of the time.
Work Environment
Moderate noise (business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Exposure to blood-borne pathogens requires personal protective equipment.
