Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Medical Physicist. In this mid‑level position, the Medical Physicist works independently and reports to the Director of Radiation Safety. The role involves applying accepted principles and protocols of physics in a clinical setting to ensure the correct quality, quantity, and placement of radiation during radiological procedures, protecting patients and others from harmful or misapplied radiation.

Job Responsibilities

Analyze and interpret the performance of measurements associated with nuclear medicine imaging equipment, oversee radionuclide calibration equipment, and calculate and interpret patient organ doses in accordance with accepted radiation safety principles. Ensure compliance with all NRC and New York City and New York State Health Code requirements. Provide services at various assigned locations.

Perform Radiation Safety/Quality Assurance testing of the following equipment:

1. SPECT cameras (including SPECT/CT units, PET cameras, PET/CT units, uptake probes, dose calibrators, well counters)

Other tasks may include:

1. Radiation protection design and surveys
   • Participation in ACR accreditation
   • Patient dosimetry calculations
   • Nuclear medicine audits
   • Occupational radiation exposure monitoring
   • Survey meter calibration
   • Sealed source leak tests and inventory verification
   • Evaluation of human and animal research studies involving ionizing radiation

General

• Maintain knowledge and professional credentials to satisfy all regulatory requirements.
• Participate in the development of improved measurement techniques and data management systems, keeping the Director informed.
• Perform all Radiation Safety/Quality Assurance testing and prepare reports promptly, typically within two weeks of the due date.
• Attend all departmental meetings.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of external agency requirements, standards, and recommendations, including those of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, New York State Department of Health, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, U.S. Department of Transportation, the National Council on Radiation Protection & Measurements, and The Joint Commission.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree from a program accepted by the NYS Office of Professions.
• Seven years of relevant experience.
• NYS license in Nuclear Medical Physics.

Salary Range

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with New York state law on salary transparency in job advertisements. The salary range for this role is $121,792.21 to $210,091.64 annually, depending on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other compensation or benefits.
