Responsibilities

Job Summary

Supports various aspects of the practice, including charge entry, and collection of co-payments at time of service. Assists the physician in maintaining efficient patient flow within the office. Under the direction of a Physician/Physician Assistant, performs a variety of clerical and patient support duties including scheduling, receptionist, telephone, data input, and exam room and medical chart preparation. Works with managed care plans to obtain prior authorization to ensure that services of physician and hospital are reimbursed by the plans. This position reports to the Manager for office duties and to the physicians for clinical and patient care responsibilities. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to provide appropriate care needed in accordance with policies, procedures and protocols and Arizona validated competencies. Performs in a manner consistent with the HonorHealth statement by identifying and meeting the needs of all customers by demonstrating integrity, respect, caring, accountability and excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Schedules patients and provides all necessary information to prepare them for medical appointments and procedures. Provides scheduling services for lab work, x-rays, and referrals. Verifies authorizations, transmits fax information, and collects co-payments. Enters charges into billing system and responds to billing requests to ensure optimal collections. Organizes and documents scheduling, registration, and payment policies.
  • Prepares treatment rooms, patient charts, and reviews for completeness. Escorts patients, takes history, vital signs, and assists providers during exams. Restocks exam rooms and maintains supplies. Ensures follow-up for labs and procedures.
  • Receives and relays calls from patients, pharmacies, and others. Manages medication orders/refills with pharmacies.
  • Performs front office duties such as reception, verification, chart maintenance, and scheduling.
  • Organizes and communicates with insurance companies for authorizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Completion of a MA training program - Required
  • High School Diploma or GED - Required

Experience

  • 1 year experience in a medical office or hospital setting - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
  • Completion of an approved training program or equivalent, and passing a certifying exam - Required
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card - Required
  • Medical Assistant Certification (e.g., CMA, CCMA, RMA) - Preferred
